Explore the Building

 

St Mary's East Barnet is the oldest building in the London Borough of Barnet.

The best way to see it is to visit in person, but the information below should

give you a taste of this important part of our local history, and a sense of the

special atmosphere of peace and stillness that people have found here for

over 900 years.

 

St Mary's Church is usually open on Saturdays between 10am and 2pm,

and you can download a copy of our leaflet "A Brief Tour of St Mary's" which

will give some basic information.  What a leaflet can't convey is the sense of

tranquility and peace which this special building possesses..........

The Churchyard

In St Mary's churchyard there are many memorials to local families of years

gone by.  Lords rest alongside lowly housekeepers, and Knights of the Realm

and Major Generals are laid to rest with wheelwrights and humble clerks.....
