St Mary's School: Values, Ethos & Aims

Our School Values, Ethos and Aims

St Mary’s Church and School have worked in close partnership in this local

community since before 1582.  As children move through the School there are

many opportunities for contact with the Parish Church:

    -    weekly Thursday Morning Worship in Church, led by the clergy at St Mary’s;

    -    visits to church to explore local history and elements of Christian worship;

    -    copies of our monthly newspaper and occasional Family Newsletters;

    -    special school services in Church for major festivals and events;

    -    the school’s RE programme;

    -    Sunday @ School - twice yearly Sunday morning celebrations where the

         main Church Service takes place in the School Hall;

The Parochial Church Council and Diocese appoint eight Foundation Governors as part

of the School's governing body.

Values & Ethos

St Mary’s School in partnership with St Mary’s Parish Church provides a safe,

caring and inclusive Christian environment:

  • where self esteem and mutual respect are encouraged through positive reinforcement and support;

  • where a broad and balanced education stimulates pupils’ enthusiasm and enjoyment of learning;

  • where skills are developed for learning in the present, and as a foundation for the future;

  • where everyone is given the opportunity to develop their full potential.

Aims

  • To maintain a distinctly Christian ethos in partnership with St Mary’s Parish Church,

  • and in relation to other local churches

  • To promote good behaviour, self discipline and independence

  • To model positive relationships and foster responsibility and respect towards others

  • To develop an awareness of the local community and the wider world

  • To foster excellence, a thirst for knowledge, and a sense of the spiritual

  • To encourage initiative, creative talents, imagination and inventiveness

  • To provide equal opportunities for all

  • To maintain a good partnership between governors, staff and parents

  • To provide for the professional development of staff and governors

  • To respond positively to change, and implement it effectively
